(RAYMONDVILLE) – In their final game before district play, the Mercedes Lady Tigers were hoping to put on a good showing while gaining some momentum as well.

Thankfully, Mercedes did both of those things as they put together a complete game and walked out of Raymondville with a 53-25 win on Friday night.

The Lady Tigers played one of their best first halves of the season on both sides of the ball as they went into the locker room with a 30-8 lead. Jessica Zepeda provided quite a bit of firepower for Mercedes as she scored nine of their first half points and finished the night with a team high 12 points.

Raymondville fared a little bit better in the second half especially on the offensive side by scoring 17 points.

And while their offense showed some improvement, Mercedes continued to score points by tallying 25 in the final two quarters of play.

“We had good ball movement and the girls were moving without the ball,” said Lady Tigers head coach Santiago Rivas. “Also we did a good job pushing the ball and finding shooters.”

Mercedes will begin district play on Tuesday night against Donna High with game time set for 7:30 p.m.
